This rifle is a Swiss Schmidt-Rubin K31. It was the standard Swiss service rifle until 1958, and some saw service into the mid-70's. The action is an unusual straight-pull bolt design, which is surprisingly quick and easy to operate once you get used to it. They advertise these guns as being "built like a Swiss watch," and they aren't kidding. The only downside to this gun is the scarcity and cost of 7.5x55 Swiss ammunition, which comes in at about $0.50 per round. Fortunately, one can reload this round for less than $0.10 per shot.

I also got this really nice bayonet for this gun - it's stainless steel and of course Swiss made. It's probably the nicest bayonet I've seen.
