This is an M16A1 lookalike, which I built from a surplus M16A1 upper half and a lower receiver that I made myself. It has a 20" long lightweight, chrome-lined, 1 in 12" twist barrel. The entire upper assembly is from a former military-issue M16A1, manufactured by Colt. The rifles were given to the Missori National Guard by the Army, and they eventually gave them to the Missouri State Police. When the State Police upgraded their weapons, the lower receivers were torch-cut, the remaining parts were sold as surplus, and this one ended up with me. The pistol grip, buttstock, receiver extension, buffer, buffer spring, and most of the lower receiver internal parts are all Colt parts as well. The lower receiver forging was obtained from William at The Tannery Shop, and the engraving was done by Steve at Tom Sawyer Mfg.. The lower receiver took many hours of work to complete, but the result is this nice-looking rifle.
This picture shows a close-up of the final finish and the engraving on the receiver. The picture to the right is what the receiver looked like after it was engraved, but before any work was done on it.
